Mediation service for couples and families
Welcome to Harter's mediation service for couples who have decided to divorce or separate.
Patricia MacAvock and Sarah Fleminger are Resolution trained Mediators.
Mediation plays a vital role when couples have to cope with the emotional
and practical issues involved when relationships breakdown and children,
property or finance are involved.
Relationship breakdown is often painful and seeking agreement through the courts can add to the trauma. Our service seeks to ease the pain and financial burden for those involved.
Benefits of Mediation:
- Mediation is available to all couples whose relationship, however brief or historic, has broken down, whether married, civil partners, co-habitees and no matter their sexual orientation.
- As mediation is a voluntary process, overseen by an impartial Mediator, it is intrinsically suited to reducing the anxiety and hostility which people can experience upon a relationship breakdown and the consequent requirement to address child care issues, financial provision and any distribution of assets etc.
- Mediation can be more time efficient and less expensive than litigation.
- A skilled Mediator can empower participants to negotiate with each
other and reach informed agreement in a constructive and positive way.
How it works
Our mediators are trained to help people resolve disputes. They will
meet with you and your partner to identify those issues you can’t agree
on and help you to try and reach agreement. Mediators are neutral and
will not take sides in any dispute. We are not advisors and will not
give advice on your individual position to either of you and will
usually recommend that you each obtain legal advice alongside the
mediation process.
How much will it cost?
